Voice Over IP (VoIP) with Asterisk™ Office
With VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol or IP) voice information
is the transmitted and received via the Internet. By using
the internet, rather than traditional citcuit-commited
protocols of the public telephone network, you do not pay
the tolls charged by ordinary telephone companies.
Office PBX requires no special hardware to connect with
VoIP, nor with the variety hardware devices manufactured
by Digium, Asterisk's™ sponsors. Some of Digium quality
products are single and quad span T1 (US standard) and
E1 (Europe standard) digital interfaces for interconnecting
to PRI lines and channel banks as well as a single port
FXO card and a one to four-port modular FXS card.
Asterisk™ Office PBX supports a many protocols
for the handling and transmission of voice over traditional
telephony interfaces. Asterisk™ supports US and European
standard signaling types used in standard business phone
systems, allowing it to bridge between next generation voice-data
integrated networks and existing infrastructure. Asterisk™ not
only supports traditional telephone equipment, it enhances
it with additional features.
